Flutterby Festival 2017
Flutterby Festival 2017
The Flutterby Festival, produced by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, celebrates its 25th year of observation of the migration of the Monarch Butterfly through our area with art activities, live music, theatre and dance performances, art exhibits, and a butterfly parade! This time of year, you are sure to see many Gulf Fritillary butterflies as well.
Join the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County for this free, family-fun, two day event on Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12 from 10 AM – 4PM in beautiful Watersound Origins. This year, we’ll be hosting a 25th birthday celebration and ice cream social each afternoon! Proceeds benefit the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County’s Art For All grant program.
New this year, they are introducing a Plein Air Paint Out event as well as a workshop with local plein air painter, Joan Vienot. The workshop titled, Successfully Starting a Plein Air Painting, will focus on practicing identifiable shape-making in plein air painting, to help the artist create effective, readable shapes to greatly increase the likelihood of producing a strong painting.
If the shapes are clear and the composition is strong, then the real fun of plein air painting, capturing the light, can happen sooner. Using oil paint, Joan will demonstrate concepts, composition, and color-mixing to paint the simplified scene en plein air, and then the artists will have opportunity to paint on their own with Joan mentoring. Pastel and watercolor artists are welcome as well. Click here for more information about the workshop and to register.
