Right Turn Lanes on U.S. 98 in Walton County to be Removed
The U.S. 98 eastbound, right turn lane to Emerald Shores Drive and westbound, right turn lane to Emerald Bay Drive will be removed this month. The removal is necessary to begin widening U.S. 98 from four to six travel lanes between the Okaloosa-Walton county line and Emerald Shores Drive. After the turn lanes are removed drivers will still be allowed to make right turns at both intersections.
U.S. 98 is the focus of a $42 million project that is widening the roadway from four to six travel lanes between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive. Other improvements include new sidewalks, bicycle paths, stormwater detention ponds, upgraded traffic signals, and drainage enhancements. The work will help relieve congestion and improve traffic flow for the estimated 46,000 drivers who travel this section of U.S. 98 daily.
All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling in a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
